Snow Ride

Woke up to …what else…more wet snow…grrrr.
I decided to ride snow, rain, wind be dammed. I dragged “Scout” my 20 year old “Swiss army knife” do anything, go anywhere, GT Passage off the rack and aired up the tires.
I am not ready to baptize the new Pacer in the salty brine that is covering the roads this week. Scout has fenders that do help in these conditions…well scout has everything, if you look up “Fred” in the cycling dictionary, you might find a picture of Scout. Several lights, speedo, fenders, racks; all it needs is a couple rear view mirrors! It was a great ride and the sun broke out on the way back to the barn.
I have been in other parts of New York State, as well as other states, and a couple other countries. One thing I can say is there is no place like home. The Hudson Valley is by far the most beautiful area I have ever seen. I rode almost 17 miles and encountered no more than half a dozen cars. I rode with a view of the Catskill Mountains most of the way and made a pit stop at the town boat launch as well. The ice appears to be gone of the river, well at least on this tide. The riverside is so different in winter, no boat engine noise, very little activity at all. The winter river will give you a feel for what it was like back when the cargo sloop was the main transport and pleasure boating was reserved for the Astors and Livingstons. Speaking of the Livingstons, I stopped by Clermont on today’s ride as well. I am a lucky man.
